1.0 OBJECTIVE
To lay down a procedure for the
Disposal of Excess samples, Expired chemicals, Impurities, Reference standards
and Empty reagent bottles or Solvent bottles or Containers.
2.0 SCOPE
This SOP is applicable for Disposal
of excess samples, expired chemicals, impurities, reference standards and empty
reagent bottles (or) Solvent bottles in Company Name
3.0 BACKGROUND

4.0 RESPONSIBILITY
4.1 All Analytical research
personnel shall follow the SOP.
4.2 Group leader of Analytical
research to ensure the proper and safe disposal of excess samples, expired
chemicals, impurities ,reference standard and empty reagent bottles or
solvent bottles.
4.3 Head Analytical research or his
designee to ensure overall compliance.
5.0 PROCEDURE
5.1 Materials / Products
After completion of analysis &
report release, excess amount of materials or product samples and expired
reference standards or impurities, received in glass or plastic
bottles or vials shall be taken out and transferred into a polybag. Place the
polybags in the respective cupboard labeled as "SAMPLES TO BE DISPOSED".
5.2 The empty bottles or vials or
HDPE containers shall be rinsed with water and shall be transferred to the
cupboard "EMPTY BOTTLES TO BE DISPOSED”.
5.3 Solvent bottles / Reagent
bottles After consuming total volume of solvent / reagent, the bottle or
container shall be rinsed with water for two times and label should be crossed
with “ X “ mark. Then the empty bottles or solvent bottles / containers
shall be transferred to the cupboard labeled as " EMPTY
BOTTLES TO BE DISPOSED ".
5.4 Polybags containing
samples or empty bottles shall be send to SHE department for disposal
through “ Requisition for Disposal ” ( Refer Annexure-1).
5.4.1 Analytical research personnel
shall raise requisition for disposal and get approved from department
head or group leader.
5.5 Before transferring the empty
and rinsed bottles to the scrap yard, it shall be stamped as “cleared” on
label.
5.6 Chemicals
5.6.1 Expired chemicals shall be
handed over to SHE department for disposal through “Requisition for Disposal”
(Refer Annexure-1).
5.6.2 Chemicals like strong
oxidizing and reducing agents (Potassium permanganate, Potassium dichromate,
Iron (II) sulphate, Sodium thiosulphate etc.,) shall not be send for disposal.
These chemicals shall be dissolved in water and shall be washed out under
stream of water.
